The Red Queen

I have a new favorite book series... and I haven't even read the whole series yet.

If you liked the Divergent and Hunger Games Series, then you will absolutely love The Red Queen.

This book was fan.tas.tic. I read it all in about 3 days because I just couldn't put it down. It's one of those red-eyed, just-a-few-more-chapters kind of books.

The basic premise of the book is that in the future (a dystopian future), there are two kinds of people: those with silver blood and those with red blood. The ones with silver blood are kind of genetic lottery winners who happen to possess special powers. They rule over the red bloods and treat them like slaves. Mare, the heroine, doesn't really like the idea of settling into a life of servitude and starvation. That all changes when she decides to pick-pocket a stranger outside of a bar.

Everything from the plot line to the character development to the dialogue is extremely well done. This book is suitable for young adults as well as those 30 and older.

The heroine, Mare, really gives you the edge to keep reading. Her tenacious spirit (minus the teen drama) really keep you on your toes. She's got spunk, but has a little more down-to-earth-ness about her than the heroines of the Divergent and Hunger Games series did.

The second book is due out sometime February 9, 2016. I'm hoping they bump it up to like January 1st at midnight. Just sayin'.

There's also a small prequel that I'll most likely be reading. Like tonight.
